A pay-per-minute café with unlimited food and drink has opened in Manchester

Okay, so Ziferblat has been open for quite a while now - but they've got a new site on Oxford Road (and it's lovely).

With Christmas looming, saving every little penny is more crucial than ever. Sometimes popping for a coffee at your local coffee shop is enough of a treat in itself but when you’re forking out the best part of a fiver per drink, the resentment will start to sink in.

Whether you’re looking for a cool spot to freelance, going for a catch up with a friend or taking a special someone on a date, coffee shops can be busy, chaotic and overpriced – which is why Manchester’s latest venture is a welcomed addition to our ever- expanding city.

As part of the Ziferblat’s iconic ‘anti-café’ chain, their newest branch situated on Oxford Road is the saving grace we have all been waiting for and let me tell you why… Ziferblat follows a very unique and attractive concept.

Unlike standard coffee shops, visitors don’t pay for drinks and food; they pay for time, which works out a hell of a lot cheaper than pretty much anywhere else in the city.

Ziferblat’s newest and third site can be found at Tresco House on Oxford Road, and will offer unlimited food and drinks and free WIFI at the set price of 8p per minute (£4.80 per hour) or 25% off for students (£3.60).

What’s the catch, I’m sure you’re asking yourself? But the truth is, there isn’t one, and the news just keeps on getting better.

The food and drink is comprised of 23 different types of tea, Fairtrade, Ziferblend organic coffee, soft drinks, vegan and vegetarian treats, breakfast foods, toasties, pastries, salads and sweets.

Guests are invited to help themselves – if and when they want it – and can then relax in the cosy sitting room, kitted out with sofas, tables, chairs and rugs.

Even if you’re visiting for business purposes, Ziferblat are happy to accommodate meetings, workshops and events in their meeting room space at no extra charge.

There is no minimum charge, contract or membership and to make things even better, you will stop being charged after your fourth hour meaning you could spend an entire day there for less than £20.

The one and only rule is that guests are asked to clean up after themselves and wash their pots which isn’t too much to ask considering how cheap it is, is it?

This student haven is open from 8am to 10pm Monday- Friday and 9am to 10pm on the weekends. But if you’d rather steer clear of students (no offence, guys) Ziferblat have two other homes, one in Northern Quarter and the other at Oxford Court, closer to Manchester Central.
