In my house growing up, we weren’t allowed to like Elton John because my mum held a grudge from that time he walked off stage when she saw him at the MEN. The story goes something like that anyway. Didn’t stop me from making Are You Ready For Love the most played song in the house though did it? Nope. I’ve still not seen this film for fear of my mum firing me as her daughter. But I’m an adult now so I might go to Mini Cini to watch it, stay tuned. Oh – Rocketman is about Elton John’s rise to stardom if you didn’t know.

Easily one of the most potent films of the last decade, Moonlight for those who haven’t seen it follows a young black male from childhood to adulthood. Navigating the dangers of drugs, violence and his complex love for his male best friend. Compared to Linklater’s Boyhood, Moonlight is a creative and vital voice in contemporary cinema that has re-mapped the way we process cinema.

A South Korean dark comedy-thriller directed by Bong Joon-Ho that tells the tale of, loosely based on his own life tutoring the son of a wealthy family in Seoul. The family then gradually infiltrate the wealthy family’s home, attempting to take over their affluent lifestyle. This film was nominated for the Golden Globe Best Director, Foreign-Language Film and Screenplay.
The Irishman

Scorsese’s epic film released late last year follows the organised crimes in postwar America. What unravelled is an intricate web of connected events, cutting back and forth across decades. The film also uses visual effects to de-age the cast from their 70s right back to their 30s as Sheeran’s (Robert De Niro) remembers his criminal past. It’s full of big names and you will definitely have seen the posters about. If you’ve still not had the chance to see it though, you definitely need to and asap.
