I must warn you – I know nothing about the musical Fame except the song – which pretty much everyone in the world knows, so it’s still really nothing.

From the notes I have written down here though, I can inform you that it started off as a musical film in 1980, and was then transferred to the small screen with a TV show and subsequent theatre musical productions ever since.

Judging from my very limited knowledge I can imagine that it’s about some people in a dancing/acting school and the trials and tribulations they encounter. Like Saved By the Bell but with leg warmers. Sister, Sister with pirouettes. Galaxy High with leotards.

In order to assist both myself and the Manchester musical-loving community, 53two have arranged for a proper Fame event to take place on Thursday 17th August and it involves turning the whole venue into The New York School of Performing Arts and providing a fully immersive night of cinema, street food, cocktails, performances and dancing.

Over the course of the night guests will have the chance to strut their stuff, perhaps doing the robot or the mash potato, in order to impress a panel of teachers with their dancing skills, before watching the original film in a special screening. After the film, the space will transform into a massive party complete with a special performance, retro prizes, food, booze and music ’til late.

Drinks wise you can expect the usual fare, as well as some special ‘Triple Threat’ cocktails that will hopefully blow your bonce off. Food will be provided by the Eat New York guys who serve up probably the best Pastrami and Salt Beef bagels this side of the Atlantic.

So if you’re into Fame or you’ve never seen it like me and you want to know what all the fuss is about, head on down and don’t mess about – get that spandex on, a couple of sweat bands and some massive leg warmers and get doing the loco-motion all night. If that is a dance move. I’m not sure.

Tickets are £15 and can be bought here:
