March sees the return of ¡Viva! and the 19th edition of the festival brings a selection of the best films from across Spain and Spanish speaking Latin America to our screens as well as an exhibition from Mexican artist Yoshua Okón to Gallery 1. Inserted within the US tradition of civil war re-enactments, Octopus by artist Yoshua Okón offers an alternative presentation of the Guatemalan Civil War. Join us on the launch night of ¡Viva! 2013 and enjoy a complimentary drink and first look at our new exhibition from Mexican artist Yoshua Okón in Gallery 1, prior to our opening night film gala.

Yoshua Okón will be joined by Artistic Director Visual Art and Film, Sarah Perks, for a cinema-based discussion interspersed with excerpts of the artist’s video work and installation views as we look into his evolving practice.
ART EXHIBITION
Rosa Barba: Subject to Constant Change

This most comprehensive solo exhibition by Rosa Barba to date features a major new installation, Subconscious Society (2013), commissioned especially for the show, alongside a selection of related film sculptures. In a unique collaboration between Turner Contemporary and Cornerhouse, each institution will exhibit a different cinematic and sculptural format of Barba’s work in Margate and Manchester during similar time periods.
