Overspill, a photography exhibition by Daniel Cheetham, launches with a private view at the Bench. Self Made Gallery on Thursday 21st February, sponsored by Jameson Whiskey.

Running from 22nd February to 10th March, Overspill is Daniel’s first solo photography exhibition and documents the overspill estates of Greater Manchester.

Photographer Daniel first came across Langley Estate, Middleton when working on another project and found himself drawn to the reputation of the estates. On researching the area he found Langley was one of the 1950’s overspill estates built by the council to rehouse hundreds of families from decaying inner city areas.

In Overspill, Daniel documents Langley, and the other Greater Manchester overspill estates Darnhill, Gamesley, Hattersley, Haughton Green and Whitefield, 60 years on, detailing their current environment and community.

Daniel says:
“I chose the Bench Self Made Gallery for my first exhibition because its a good platform for up and upcoming photographers, graphic designers and other creatives to show their work.

“It’s such a rare thing for there to be this kind of free creative space plus the backing you get from Bench is amazing. It’s great to see a brand give back.

“I am very much looking forward to the exhibition as it’s always good to have other people view your work.”
