Oddest is the Chorlton branch of Odd bar in the Northern Quarter. It’s conveniently just a short stumble from Chorlton tram stop, and so we snuck down there after work on a Thursday evening to see what their new small plates menu had to offer.
The food arrived promptly, and we were served a tasty mixture of tapas and meze style dishes, with a distinctly Chorlton twist. At the tapas end of the scale, we had barbecue chorizo; meaty, spicy and smoky. Then the meze grilled chicken skewers with yogurt dip took things over towards middle eastern cooking.
An impressive range of vegetarian and vegan friendly options matched the meatier cuts blow by blow. The trio of hummus with pomegranate and flatbread showed a commendable level of respect for the mighty chickpea dip, and these disappeared quickly from our table, followed swiftly by the halloumi. Because, well, it’s cheese.
I then ate more than my fair share of the rather inventive sweet potato and polenta koftas. Despite being fried these were nice and light, great for snacking on and also contrasted well with the fresher taste of the grilled artichoke hearts.
Altogether a very pleasant evening, and we thought the dishes created a nice casual experience. Great food to order at your own pace through the evening, and of course to pair up with a few of the guest ales.
