In 2002 Tristan Hogg and Jon Simon hatched a plan – to create the most delicious and wholesome pie the British public had ever tasted. In June 2003 the first official pieminister pie was born. Soon to follow was a pie shop in Bristol. A few years have gone by and Pieminister are now stocked around the country.

But that’s not why we’re here.

Already known by many in the North West for its top draw pies the Pieminister’s restaurant offers first-rate food and cider all day and evening, to eat-in or take away.

Jon Simon, pieminister founder says,

‘The people of Manchester know a thing or two about good pies so we’re flattered to have had such a great response already to our arrival. Many first discovered our pies at Glastonbury and the other music festivals we pitch up at each summer, probably washed down with a cider. Now you can experience this perfect pairing all year round, without having to leave town!’

With The Whiskey Jar currently stocking Pieminister and the recent addition of Pie&Ale it would appear there’s a new kid on the block to rival the Northern Quarter Burger!

The menu also features ploughman’s platters with artisan cheeses, handmade scotch eggs or luxury sausage rolls. There’s a selection of British bar snacks to nibble on too. Enjoy your pie feast West Country-style with one of the excellent ciders on offer. Or try some British craft beers or wine.

I went along a couple of days ago and can highly recommend the Deerstalker Pie (Venison) – cooked brilliantly and accompanied with a good bit of mash, nearly as good as my Nan’s mash, and some top draw onion gravy.
