I’ve just finished my lunch and it was a rather lacklustre affair. I’ve decided not to eat bread before my holiday in a few weeks so my options have been severely limited. Now I’ve had a bad lunch though I just know that this afternoon is going to drag. Lunch is a big deal, with the majority of my morning thinking about it – once the energy from the Ready Brek has worn off.
Luckily enough there are an abundance of fantastic Lunch Deals throughout the city centre to make your lunch decisions much easier. One such deal is at Black Dog Ballroom – in either their NQ or NWS sites – and it’s the £5 Lunch Offer.
For said fiver you get the choice of one of 4 meals; A Cheeseburger (with fries), a Pepperoni Pizza, a Club Sandwich (with fries) and a Superfood Salad.
Now I probably know what you’re thinking – who in their right mind is going to choose the Superfood Salad?! Well, there were four of us who went to Black Dog last week and it was decided that I would be the one to try the salad, while the other three lads got to enjoy the other three.
When we arrived we were warmly greeted and sat down near the door. After I started sulking about the salad we decided to each order one thing and then share it amongst ourselves. Perfect for a review – so I could try each dish, and also perfect for my rumbling tummy.
As you would expect from Black Dog, the dishes are exceptional value, leaving you nice and full and dozing off at your desk by 3pm. Being able to get a 14 inch pepperoni pizza, caked in cheese and featuring that trademark pepperoni twang, for only £5 is excellent, and could probably satisfy two.
The cheeseburger was physically considerable and featured the excellent meaty and moist patties that Black Dog have been smashing out for a fair few years now. Getting fries and coleslaw as well just adds to the enjoyment. Finally, the Club Sandwich was my personal favourite, featuring a brilliantly tangy mayonnaise (which I suspect may have been Mustard!?) and beautifully stacked to perfection.
That’s not final though is it!? There’s still the Superfood Salad to mention. Instead of secretly sliding it under the rug like you would with a porn mag when your mum comes to visit – I should indeed tell you about it. It was actually alright to be honest – sure it’s not as big or as impressive as the other dishes; but if you want a light lunch, or are watching your figure – it’s perfect.
I would consider one of the greatest meals in the world to be salad and chips, and so I happily chomped down on the salad, combined with the abundance of fries that came with the burger and the sandwich. I even placed a bit of both on one of the pizza slices and made myself a brand new invention.
And I suppose that’s the beauty of Black Dogs £5 Lunch Deal – it’s cheap enough to get a gang of people from work, sit down, order stuff and then share bits and pieces while slagging off your boss for his bad breath. You’ll definitely leave with a few rungs of your belt loosened, and if it’s a Friday there’s always their top selection of cocktails or beers to make the last afternoon of the working week go that little bit faster.
