I love myself a lunch deal. When it is miserable and cold outside and you have enough work on to keep the terracotta army busy for a year- sometimes lunch is the only thing you can look forward to.
There has to be some criteria, however, for a good lunch deal other than it being utterly delicious- that one goes without saying.
First, it has to be nice and close. I don’t want to be schlepping to the other side of town only to walk all the way back on a (hopefully) full stomach.
That brings me nicely on to my second point- it has to be filling. I am not a breakfast kinda girl and I don’t eat dinner until late- so I am relying on lunch to see me through. Finally, I want it to be a fair price. If I am de-stressing at a lunch venue five days a week, it has to be kind on the old wallet.
With this in mind, it is safe to say that the £12 sharing platter at the uber cool and super chilled Ancoats venue The Jane Eyre ticked every single box.
Just going to jump right in with what you get for twelve sheets. The platter is designed to be shared for two, but you totally don’t have to if you are A) hungry B) pissed off with everyone in your office. You will enjoy a stunningly delicious Salt Cod Scotch Egg – which was well seasoned, creamy and incredibly moreish.
Alongside this, you will get a toastie of your choice of filling with options like Salt Beef and Pickle (with a liberal dose of mustard mayo), Crab and Chorizo (which is an unlikely match made in heaven) or Jamon and Manchego with tomato salsa. We opted for the salt beef and pickle – which satisfied every craving I have ever had. Just delicious.
To top it all off, this comes with a lovely Rocket and Parmesan Salad, which was appropriately smothered in sweet sticky balsamic vinegar, and a portion of Padron Peppers which were fried to perfection and dusted with a little rock salt.
All in all, The Jane Eyre lunch menu comfortably ticked off every bit of my criteria. On top of this, the food was delicious, the cocktails stunning (I’m going to write about those a little later- so watch this space), the interior relaxed and charming, and the service implacable. Top marks all round.
