One of the North West’s leading dance choreographers Julie Kavanagh is urging the regions dancers to ‘step up’ and show off their talent.
Julie, founder of JK Dance, which supplies some of the strongest dancers in the UK for high profile events, campaigns and commercials, including Gucci, Nike, and Nintendo is casting for her latest projects on 23rd February at Studio 25 in the Northern Quarter. It’s not the first time Julie has auditioned up North as well as down in London-but this time she is hoping to uncover some real talent.
“I’m desperate for people from the North West but I am left constantly disappointed. The colleges and private dance schools are not stepping up to the mark and you often find that they are not even up to standard and ready for work after 3 years.”
Julie adds:
“I lose thousands of pounds every year as I have to travel everyone up to Manchester from London. It‘s not just the money too – I am disappointed as I wanted to fly the flag for northern talent after all the work I have done in the city, developing dance from a grass roots level. I have not taken on any new dancers from the North West for 2 years now. I gave up.”
Julie knows what she is talking about with an impressive record of over a decade of direct experience in choreography-she has developed a keen eye for spotting new talent and nurturing existing ones.
The auditions on the 23rd February are for dancers to appear in a number of fashion shows taking place later this year including Manchester’s Arndale and Trafford Centre.
