For the first time in Manchester, Heverlee at Mayfield will fuse Mancunian and Belgian cultures for a pop-up festival curated by some of both locations’ best known names in music, arts and food – transforming the derelict depot into a bustling European party hub.
The festival will showcase Belgian inspired street food, projections and live street art demos from famed Brussels native DZIA and local city street artists (Tasha Whittle, Tankpetrol and Matt Sewell) plus a selection of eclectic electronic DJs soundtracking the party atmosphere.
Influential DJ headliners spinning tracks throughout the festival will include Belgian tastemaker Lefto, Boiler room regular and Manchester native XXXY, and famed Berlin based crate digger San Soda.
Other artists on decks during the festival will include Manchester natives Moonboots, Annabel Fraser, Angus Jefford, and Illum Sphere, with Belgium DJ talent AliA and Bjeor flying in for the occasion. Basement Wax Record Store will also host a pop-up store on-site selling records sourced from collectors, vinyl fairs and beyond from their worldwide vinyl network.
Well-known Manchester street artist Tasha Whittle will be teaming up with the world renowned street artist and friend of Heverlee DZIA, and locals Tankpetrol and Matt Sewell to showcase live art on the walls of the depot itself during the festival.
The full line-up of arts and entertainment will be available to view on Heverlee’s social channels in the weeks leading up to opening night.
At the bar, guests will have the chance to enjoy cold pints of Heverlee creamy pilsner style lager. Heverlee is Belgian born and brewed and was re-created from descriptions of a historical beer brewed by monks at the Abbey of the Order of Premontre, Leuven in 1129. Look out for Heverlee rolling out in stores and bars in Manchester from early October.
Paying homage to the beer café culture of its home country, Heverlee at Mayfield will build on the huge success of previous Belgian micro-festivals Heverlee at New Waverley in Edinburgh and Heverlee at Tontine in Glasgow.

This will be many people in Manchester’s first taste of Heverlee and we can’t think of a better way for people to experience the beer and what it’s really about. We’re bringing an epic introduction to Heverlee for Manchester as we begin to roll out the beer in bars and stores around the city.”
Mayfield is a 24-acre site next to Manchester Piccadilly station, with the Mayfield Depot located beneath the former Mayfield Station. Mayfield Depot is a historic part of Manchester, which was known as the heart of the city during the industrial revolution.
It contributed massively to Manchester’s booming textile industry, with the famous Mayfield Printworks located on the banks of the River Medlock which runs through the site. It’s thought to have a supernatural presence with a ghost sighting in one of its cavernous arches reported earlier this year.
There are plans for a £1.1bn 10-year regeneration of the area to create a distinctive new urban quarter, delivering 1,300 homes, 75,000 sq m of office space, a hotel, retail and leisure facilities and a new city park over the next decade.
