As part of our relationship with the very Finest Manchester restaurants we create unique dining experiences, this time it was the turn of Tattu with a menu that took us on a journey through the Guangdong region of China.

Walking into the Parlour at Tattu for the first time you feel a certain sense of elevation, like you’ve made it into the inner echelon and whilst many have tried, few have actually seen. If you don’t get that then you’ll certainly get the wave of appreciation for the space and the atmosphere immediately created as the group enters and drinks it all in.

Drinks poured and everybody seated our room of 20 diners who are greeted by head chef Jon Green and the menu sheets in-front of us are explained, 7 dishes of considered traditional recipes tweaked only slightly to create that unique Tattu style. The first nibbles are out and we’re on Salt and Pepper Cod Cheeks with lime pickle gel, onion puree, chilli and garlic. Murmurs around the table are resoundingly positive and the appreciation keeps on coming as we are served Chinese White Cut Chicken: chicken thigh soup, sesame breast with Shitake mushrooms, 5 spiced leg.

The dishes keep on coming with Sea Bream Cantonese with samphire and crispy noodles, Shanghai Rice with prawn and pancetta and a Tempura Pickled Salad with shanghai vinegar and daikon, all fantastic and in their own right but of course complementary to each other. Next though it was the Deconstructed Sweet and Sour Pork with pineapple gel, sweet tempura chillies and roasted onions. For me this dish stole the show and I certainly wasn’t alone in that.

2 and half bottles of a particularly good white wine later and we’re on my favourite course of any meal. I must admit my sweet tooth is actually more like a full set, Mango and Coconut Sago with Vanilla sorbet finishes what has been a thoroughly enjoyable 2.5 hour dining experience.

Our next Journey Through China dining experience with Tattu sees us head to the province of Szechuan (or Sichuan) on Thursday 15th March where diners will enjoy six exclusive courses and two paired cocktails for £39…
