Award winning lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) festival, Manchester Pride, has today launched an official iPhone application.

In line with Manchester Pride’s ethos of pushing traditional boundaries, the festival is one of the first Pride events in the UK to launch a dedicated app and it is being made available as a free download to visitors.

The app, which is available for download from the iTunes app store, has a number of features to enhance the visitor experience during the Big Weekend, which takes place between 26 – 29 August, and attracts over 45,000 visitors.

Features include ‘Hot Spots’, with information about the site, location of facilities such as box office and wristband exchange, as well as the extensive bars and clubs within Manchester’s famous Gay Village. It also features information on the weekend’s entertainment schedule, with a star-studded bill including Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, the Sugababes and Blue.

The app has been produced in conjunction with RBS: the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, who are running a unique competition to be part of their ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ entry in the Manchester Pride Parade on Saturday 27 August.

Jackie Crozier, Festival Director for Manchester Pride, said: “Manchester Pride is delighted to have developed an App for those who are attending this year’s festival. Keeping in touch with current trends and means of accessing information is extremely important. At a young, fun 21 ¬ Manchester Pride

knows that it is important to be able to access info on the go. We are grateful to RBS for their support to allow us to achieve this long-term goal of ours and hope it helps this year¹s attendees enjoy their experience even ore so.”

Amanda Owen, Group Head of Safety, Health & Wellbeing and Diversity at RBS commented – “RBS have fostered a strong relationship with Manchester Pride over the years through our internal LGBT network – Rainbow. Aside from the fun, we believe it is a great opportunity for us to engage with the LGBT community and show them where we could take them in their careers. As well as our usual float, we’ve furthered our partnership this year to include sponsorship of the new ‘Guide to Pride’ iPhone app and are hosting a competition to win VIP tickets helping everyone get the most out of the weekend. Our link to Manchester Pride is a great platform for us to demonstrate that we support diversity and are committed to creating a working environment that is inclusive to all”

The Manchester Pride 2011 App is available to download for free via the iTunes app store and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Manchester Pride’s ‘Big Weekend’ takes place from Friday 26 – Monday 29 August, and tickets are now on sale. For more information please visit: www.manchesterpride.com
