This summer, Manchester becomes a garden city. From King Street to the Cathedral, via fine food, flowers and a fête, with markets, workshops and public art – Manchester’s urban gardening festival. Supported by the National Trust, the event will inspire visitors as it transforms the city centre into a natural wonderland.
Horticultural highlights include a pop-up park and workshops with TV gardener Monty Don, presenter of BBC Gardener’s World. There’ll also be a fine food market, stunning art by New York’s Jason Hackenworth, the National Trust’s “50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾” campaign for kids, plant-swops, craft markets, and an urban twist on a traditional country fair.
As the festival blossoms across the city, and takes in King Street, St. Ann’s Square, New Cathedral Street, Exchange Square and Cathedral Yard, so too will nine days of unexpected things to do – after work, at the weekend and in the holidays.
