Manchester photographer Shay Rowan shares his thoughts and images from the recent well reviewed Bat For Lashes show at Manchester Cathedral.
An array of colourful uplighting floods the Gothic arches of Manchester Cathedral and forms the perfect backdrop for Natasha Khan as she enters the stage for the second consecutive night in support of her new Bat For Lashes album – “The Haunted Man”.
Following on from her two previous Mercury nominated albums – “Fur and gold” and “Two Suns” – her latest release is a smooth and sleek creation brimming with confidence and varying in styles from the swaying piano ballad “Laura” to the strident electro feel of “A Wall”.
Visually, a change has taken place too as Natasha has traded her earlier style of glittering face paint and colourful headbands for an altogether more relaxed but glamorous look in a full length white lace gown in which she dances and sways around the stage.
It is clear that she is enjoying the whole experience as she shares with the audience how much she loves the setting and that she would “like to perform the whole tour here”. She plucks several tracks from the earlier albums to thread amongst the new songs and they have never sounded better with “Daniel” proving the perfect way to close a quite outstanding set.
