This week the album has made it to Radio 1’s album of the week and BBC 6music album of the day.

There’s been a huge expectation around a full CABBAGE album, ever since their startling debut EP ‘Le Chou’ arrived at the start of 2016. Since then, the Manchester band have released 36 songs, played well over 200 gigs and done every festival Europe hasn’t offer.

They released a double-vinyl compilation of their first three EPs (the brilliantly titled ‘Young, Dumb And Full Of… Cabbage’) for Record Store Day 2017.

They have gone all out on their debut album launch, convincing Manchester Art Gallery to let them do an art exhibition and an ‘Acoustic’ set. You can’t help but fall for the band, they are doing everything right at the moment and events like this are why the Manchester crowd have taken so well to them.

The exhibition is well thought through and brings the album to life. The band themselves are mingling through the crowd of fans and family and friends they have long black cloaks and face paint which reflects the album cover artwork.

The crowd get the opportunity to chat to each band member as they walk the exhibition, as the album is played in the background. The album tracks are very political which is made clear when you visualise each track in art form.

The showcase has pieces such as a bathtub with  graffiti with the word ‘Preach’ with a dummy lay in it to represent track ‘Preach To The Converted’. The album title is brought to life as bassist Stephen Evans is handing out ‘Nihilistic Glamour Shots’ made up of coca cola, pineapple and orange juice.

There are a number of ‘Mutant Gibraltor Apes’ hidden around the exhibition. In one of the gazebos we are drawn in by loud banging, within is an artist smashing up vinyls and recreating the bands album artwork from the broken pieces. Its chaos and its exiting.

“We are just setting the vibes” says one of the band members.

The crowd start to find their spot front of stage and the Mossley lads give each other a nod and put their drinks down and make their way to the stage. It’s anything but acoustic, all be it the band are well behaved and respectful to their hosts, compared to some of their other gigs.

“This means a lot to us, this is  a celebration of the new album, please enjoy each piece of artwork to accompany each track”

Cabbage played through 6 tracks from their new album and a couple of older ones. ‘Nihilistic Glamour Shots’ is an album that confirms Cabbage as one of the most nuanced bands in years. Buy their album and have a listen for yourself here.
