Micron set for stellar birthday with Ame and The Revenge
One of Manchester’s most revered club nights hangs up its slipmats for good in a month or so, but not before celebrating five years in the game this weekend. And after welcoming guests like Danny Howells, Hercules & Love Affair, Ben Klock, Yousef, and Heidi to the open-bricked confines of a usually heaving Princess Street basement, you’d hope the final parties would be equally unmissable, especially this half-decade celebration.
Good thing then Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann, AKA Ame, have been booked to play the third-to-last event, this Friday, November 11th, at Joshua Brooks. The Innervisions duo will no doubt be delivering that blend of deep and dirty, Detroit-referencing house music that makes them one of Europe’s best-loved partnerships. It’s the kind of sound familiar to those who have heard their mix, Primary Structures, released earlier this year, or the Fabric CD they pieced together back in 2008 (a piece of work that still impresses).
As if said pair weren’t enough you can also catch often unsung British hero The Revenge, whose album of April this year- Reekin’Structions– is a fine disco-funk-rethunk-via-house effort. Not that his resume ends there mind, what with other work on labels such as DFA, Dessous, Buzzin’ Fly, and Poker Flat.
