Nanny's Top 5 Nights 14/15 March

The sun has been shining over Manchester this week (at times), my mate has got daffodils in his garden and there’s a tasty array of music on the menu over the weekend. Oh yeah and it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, so don’t stay out too late.

The sun has been shining over Manchester this week (at times), my mate has got daffodils in his garden and there’s a tasty array of music on the menu over the weekend. Oh yeah and it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, so don’t stay out too late.

1.    DJ Yoda ‘Breakfast Of Champions’ Live Band Show + DJ Yoda AV DJ Set

other

Sounds like a bit of mouthful I know but this looks set to be a very special event. The world famous DJ Yoda brings his Breakfast Of Champions project to Band On The Wall this Friday. The band, which includes Manchester hip hop talents, Sparkz and Truthos Mufasa will take to the stage with a live demonstration of recent work and it looks set to be a banger. The night is rounded off by an AV DJ performance by DJ Yoda himself, to say you’re getting your money’s worth is an understatement. Tickets are still available but expect them to be in short supply come Friday evening.

2. Andy C, All Night

andyc

The biggest name in Drum n Bass touches down at The Albert Hall on Saturday night as part of his All Night UK Tour. With a bit of help from MC GQ and Manchester legend Tonn Piper, Andy C takes to the decks from 10-4 for a 6 hour rinse out which is sure to hit all areas of DnB. The venue, an experience in itself, is one which Manchester can be proud of and the more shredded amongst you will probably get lost in one of its winding corridors at some point. You’ll be lucky to find a ticket anywhere for this one with all outlets seeming to have sold out, I’ve struggled to arrange a guest list so blagging the door staff may be in order, saying that I do look a bit like Tonn Piper.

3. Jamz MCR

One for all the grime/garage heads as Spooky gets busy at Soup Kitchen for all night vinyl only special on Saturday night. Expect an eclectic session as he goes through reggae, jungle, dub step, garage, grime and anything else he has added to his record collection over the years. Good to see a night dedicated to vinyl DJing which is more and more quickly becoming a dying art. £6 tickets available, will definitely be a busy one.

4.   MVSON 2nd Birthday

sankey

Sankeys plays host to the biggest Birthday in town this Friday as MVSON celebrates 2 years in business with Scuba on headline duties. Joined by Ryan Elliott, Space Dimension Controller and Tom Demac this will be a party to remember with top beats from start to finish. Tickets are still available from Skiddle and direct from Sankeys.

5. Flyin’ Easy w/ Matthew Halsall (DJ set)

And now for something completely different. If you need to keep things a bit more low key this weekend, get down to The Whiskey Jar on Friday night for a special selection from Matthew Halsall.  Disco, funk, jazz, soul and booze are all on the cards in one of the Northern Quarter’s hottest night spots.
