On Saturday 14 July 2012, Box of Tricks will launch its new late-night cross-art underground party COUNTERCULTURECLUB in the Northern Quarter’s 2022NQ creative space. A first for Manchester, the event will host a collection of independent music, spoken word, comedy, visual art, theatre and DJs. For tickets, please visit www.skiddle.com

Smashing the fourth wall, and bringing down the house, COUNTERCULTURECLUB will host a diverse collection of performance from Manchester’s independent arts scene. The line-up includes the award-winning performance poet Ben Mellor (winner of BBC Radio 4’s National Poetry Slam 2009), Today is Yesterday’s Tomorrow (one-page plays from the very best emerging playwrights), illustration and film from art collective Generic Greeting and local bands The Spiels and Sam Haine & the Bloodflames.

The night is hosted by Box of Tricks, a new writing theatre company committed to developing and producing the best new work around; discovering, nurturing and promoting the next generation of artists.

Adam Quayle, Joint Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Box of Tricks, says: “The idea behind COUNTERCULTURECLUB is to offer the unique opportunity to experience many different strands of the arts and entertainment scene, in a non-traditional environment. Rather than go out simply to a gig, a club or a comedy night, people can enjoy theatre, art and poetry, alongside live music and stand-up, with a DJ set to finish off the night. We hope they’ll take a chance and discover a whole new appreciation for live performance. It’s the thinking man’s Saturday night!”
