Last month saw a welcome return of the dub master himself Dennis Bovell to South Manchester’s finest midweek gathering, the One Deck Wednesday Social at Electrik.
The famed artist, producer & instrumentalist who has worked with people as diverse as Bananarama, Fela Kuti & Marvin Gaye delivered the vibes with much toasting & hosting as well as having a quick chat with Finest.
Dennis has earned himself the reputation of being Britain’s reggae maestro, from pioneering early developments in the genre over 40 years ago to producing classic hits.
He is renowned as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (playing guitar, bass and keyboards) as well as a sound engineer, composer, bandleader and producer.
As well as recording and producing his own music, Dennis Bovell continues to lead the UK scene with innovative and adventurous music. He re-mixed albums for the great Marvin Gaye as well as Wet Wet Wet and The The, The Boomtown Rats and worked closely with Fela Kuti.
Each and every Wednesday at Electrik in Chorlton you can find some of the finest record collectors and crate diggers, who are invited down to play whatever they want in entirety with no mixing, headphones, scratching or beat juggling, it’s strictly just about the music. Catch it every week from 8pm until 11pm.
