SUMMER IN THE CITY
Castlefield Bowl, Manchester
July 2015

This summer some of the most acclaimed live artists are taking over Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl throughout July for Summer In The City.

On Thursday 2nd July, Paolo Nutini will headline the iconic location following an incredible 12 months since his acclaimed third album ‘Caustic Love’ went straight in at number 1, quickly reaching platinum status and cementing Paolo Nutini as one of the country’s leading artists. Produced by Paolo Nutini and Dani Castelar, ‘Caustic Love’ has been universally hailed by fans and critics alike. Paolo and his impressive nine piece band have spent much of the last year touring the UK and Europe with not to-be-missed live shows and his appearance at Summer In the City will be in the midst of worldwide festival appearances. Lianne La Havas has just been confirmed to join Paolo Nutini as special guest for this special outdoor show. Lianne La Havas has had incredible success since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Is Your Love Big Enough?’ in 2012 which was awarded iTunes Album of The Year. More recently Lianne has been collaborating with the likes Prince, Aqualung and Tourist and her appearance at Summer In The City will be followed by hotly tipped appearances at Latitude, Bestival and GOTR.

Following the release of their critically acclaimed twelfth album, ‘Modern Nature’ The Charlatans will perform on Saturday 4th July. Tim Burgess, Mark Collins, Martin Blunt and Tony Rogers’ new album features eleven new tracks and includes the recent limited edition 7” single and 6 Music A List record ‘Talking In Tones’ and the anthemic ‘Come Home Baby’. It was produced by The Charlatans and Jim Spencer. Q have already described the album as “one the finest of their career.” Their current sold out live shows are The Charlatans’ first full UK tour since 2010. Just announced to join The Charlatans as special guests is Super Furry Animals. The band recently announced their return to active service with the news of their first headline shows since 2009 and deluxe reissue of album ‘MWNG’ to mark its 15th anniversary. The show will also see a very special DJ set from New Order’s Stephen Morris & Gillian Gilbert and upcoming Manchester band Blossoms.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will headline at the iconic location on Saturday 11th July. At the hometown outdoor show Noel will be joined on the bill by fellow Mancunians Johnny Marr and Black Rivers (Jez and Andy Williams formerly of The Doves) – making for a very special evening in Manchester. The show succeeds Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ recently completed sold out arena tour and release of the number one album ‘Chasing Yesterday’ on Sour Mash Records. The highly acclaimed “Chasing Yesterday” is the fastest selling album of 2015 so far, going straight to number one last Sunday. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ 2015 live schedule sees them play the Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust on March 28 before headlining shows throughout Asia and the USA and then returning to the UK for festival appearances at Latitude, T In The Park and Clapham Calling.

As previously announced Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott will headline Summer In the City on Friday 3rd July. Their outdoor show follows what was an extraordinarily successful 2014 for the duo. Their album “What Have We Become” was one of the success stories of last year. Hitting No. 3 in the charts on release, it is the first record Paul and Jacqui have made together since the multi-million selling days of The Beautiful South. The album was reissued with additional tracks recorded with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, including the single “Real Hope”, at the end of last year. They will be joined by special guests I AM KLOOT and The Leisure Society.

Castlefield bowl in the heart of Manchester City Centre played host to sold out shows from James and Pixies last year and in 2013 saw The Courteeners headline two hugely successful sold out concerts.
