It’s not uncommon to come into Autumn feeling tired, frumpy and demotivated, especially as the mornings are a little darker as well as a bit chillier. This can really dampen our mood as well as leave us feeling a little less motivated to get into the shape we want.

But, the show must go on and we have got 3 tips to help you get on track and pack away those post summer blues so that you can start to move quickly towards how you want to look and feel. All ready for that cheese board on Christmas Day!

So Veera Stannard, Personal Trainer at the The Lowry Hotel has come up with some tips to get back on track after an indulgent Summer:

Eat real food (most of the time)

It sounds really simple but a lot of people seem to be deviating away from fresh, wholesome foods. Cutting back the processed foods and focusing predominantly on single ingredient foods will boost our digestive system, our immune system and really help lift our mood.

Eating well will give us the energy we need to start exercising and moving regularly, which will, of course, help with weight loss and toning up.

This doesn’t mean you need to do any fancy detoxes or completely eliminate your favourite foods. Just focus 80-90% of your diet on vegetables, fruits, lean meats, fish, quality dairy, nuts, and seeds and drink plenty of water.

Cut back on the booze and sugar

A lot of us can overindulge in the summer. Particularly when it comes to alcohol and sugars. Over time, this can put our liver under a lot of stress. When the liver is stressed out, dropping body fat becomes very difficult. Try and limit your weekly alcohol intake as well as reducing the amount of processed sugar you consume.

Consider adding some fresh lemon or lime to your water during the day to give your liver a helping hand.

Supplement with Vitamin D

It is estimated that around 50% of the UK are deficient in Vitamin D. Vitamin D is made when we are exposed to sunlight and has some really positive health benefits. Adequate levels boost our immune system, helps with bone development, improves the way our body deals with carbohydrates and also helps control cravings and lift our mood.

Supplement with 1000iu every day throughout winter to make sure you’re topped up.
