From Milan to Manchester – The Avenue, Spinningfields Celebrates Festa Italia.

To celebrate Italy’s 150th anniversary, The Avenue, Manchester’ s luxury  retail quarter  will be taken over by traditional Italian festivities coinciding with Fathers’ day on Sunday June 19th , 11:30 – 6pm.

The luxury shopping quarter will be transformed into a typical piazza with Italian vintage cars appearing overnight on The Avenue including Alfa Romeos, Lancias and classic Ferraris. Proving to be perfect Fathers’ day entertainment, the car owners will be available throughout the day providing essential tips to dads on how to care for their prized motors.

Bespoke men’s shoe designer Oliver Sweeney will be serving canapés and gifting free stingray chest wallets with every full priced purchase. In association with The Italian Consulate and the Societa’ Dante Alighieri and Ciao Italia (Italian Restaurateurs in England), Spinningfields restaurants and cafes across the development will be entering fully into the festivities with traditional antipasti to be served by Carluccio’s with a bespoke wine stall featuring tasting sessions of the finest vinos, and Strada will be creating its very own pop up marquee.

Southern European favourites Zizzi will be bringing a taste of Italia with a dough throwing competition for the more competitive dads with the best “tosser” winning a family meal for four on the day.

To while the day away in true European style, open air cinema, Screenfields, will be screening a one off special of The Leopard, the 1963 classic at 4pm.  It stars Burt Lancaster as The Prince of Salina, a noble aristocrat of impeccable integrity, as he tries to preserve his family and class amid the tumultuous social upheavals of 1860’s Sicily.

Fran Goddard head of communications and events said “We are delighted that the whole of Spinningfields has entered fully into our planned festivities. We look forward to seeing families on site throughout the weekend celebrating Fathers’ day, taking part in the Manchester Day Parade and experiencing a taste of typical Italia!”
