Greater Manchester Alternative Christmas Markets 2017

We’re all aware of the Manchester Christmas Markets, and while they are fantastic in every way, the volume of people, especially in Albert Square, can get a little overwhelming for some.

Let it be known that there are other markets around Greater Manchester that may tickle your fancy and certainly appeal to your every festive need – without the occasional stampede!

Chorlton Green Christmas Market
16th & 17th December 2017
The usual market will be transformed for the festive period, and is secluded enough that you’ll feel as though you’re in your own back garden. What’s more, the Horse and Jockey pub will be taking donations in the form of unwanted coats to give to homeless charities, to see them through this freezing winter. Expect to find cool vintage clothing stalls and of course, mulled wine and mince pies.

Levenshulme Christmas Night Market
Saturday 9th December
Another regular market that’s getting a Christmas makeover, the Levenshulme night market. Boasting extended hours of 4pm- 9pm, you can get your artisanal festive fix at this one, whilst shovelling in as many mince pies as you can humanly manage. There’s also a range of crafts and artwork to feast your eyes upon.

Christmas Food Fair at Fairfield Social Club
From 1st December
Now for something a little bit different. Home to Grub at the weekends, Fairfield Social Club is hosting its own version of a Christmas market, awash with some of the biggest selling Manchester food giants this year (see Hip Hip Chop Shop and Yes! Doughnuts amongst others). On top of that, DJ’s playing all night long and craft beer flowing. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it?
Try a ‘feuerzangenbowle’ if you dare (a really mental gluhwein) and from 2nd December, purchase a real Christmas tree from Bud Garden Centre.

OFF Markets Manchester
Saturday 9th December
And now for something entirely different. A Christmas wonderland in a Northern Quarter basement. However, it’s not as minging as it sounds (I promise). In the Swan Building, below deck, enjoy boozy milkshakes, craft beer and tonnes of stalls to whet your festive appetite.

The Lowry Outlet Christmas Makers Market
Sounds posh because it is. Extended shopping centre hours means the need for a artisan producers outside instead of in. But not to worry, there will be plenty of mulled wine to keep you going. Plus, there will be entertainment for you to enjoy if the shopping just gets too much.

Tameside Christmas Market
Now this one promises to be a showstopper! Oompah bands, that to be fair you don’t even get at the Manchester Christmas Markets, reindeers running loose and FREE rides! Magical. Based in Ashton Market Hall, there’s traditional little log cabins and Santa himself. You literally couldn’t get more Christmas if you tried.
