3 is the magic number and never more so than in this season. Past, Present, Future. Islington Mill welcomes back old favourites in the forms of CHERYL, Sounds From The Other City, Marcellus Pittman and curators Gass and Jeni, Islington Mill works with new faces such as Gesamkunstwerk and constantly create in the present moment as we host 3 residencies over the space of 6 weeks.
Expect light and sound explosions on the 5th floor, wars in the club space, post apocalyptic fantasy parades, post industrial sounds and no event to leave you on the outside as every experience aims to be an immersive one.
Rule Of 3
Rule of Three is initiated and managed by independent curators Jeni Holt Wright and Gass Pendergast who last year bought you the hugely successful exhibition Dynamic Death Party. Focused around three clusters of activity at Islington Mill this project draws together academic, anecdotal and artistic responses to the nature of contemporary art practice. Leading to a public Internet resource which will contain multi-media feedback from emerging artists and curators, arts professionals and members of the public.
As well as showcasing emerging creative talent at Islington Mill, Rule of 3 hopes to address artistic education, professional development and funding issues, by bringing creative minds together to discuss the increasingly uncertain future of arts practice.

Rule of 3 launch
The first event explodes with light and sound artist Joanne McClung performing on our haunting 5th floor attic space, live music and film merging in the club space at the one year celebration of Manchester’s film and music night Video Jam, an interactive piece by illustrative artist Stephen Nuttall in collaboration with Trifecta Films and an open studio of artist-in-residence Rachel Pursglove who will open unexpected doors into our imagination through a plethora of mixed media. Video Jam
An experiment in sound and moving image, Video Jam debuts at Islington Mill in celebration of their first birthday. Inspired by the traditional use of live accompaniment to silent film they have curated an assembly of original pieces, staging an eclectic array of musicians, sound artists and performers each responding to submissions by local filmmakers. Following a theatre format with a narrator, a programme and an interval this evening aims to engage, inspire and experiment.

CHERYL present The Cheryls
Our favourite New York Dance Party outfit return after their month long residency back in May and this time it is personal. Usually gangs don’t fly across the ocean or strategically book nightclubs as arenas for confronting their rivals. But CHERYL is no ordinary gang they are preparing for a massive disco KERFUFFLE with you and your crew so come with your posse. Roll deep. And be prepared to fight to the death with your most insane moves until no one is left standing on the dance floor.

Sounds From The Other City presents
By changing your situation & your vantage point performance art collective, Topical Jungle and the post-apocalyptic ways of Kazimer’s homegrown live band, Dogshow will take you into another dimension as you experience this event which aims to immerse both artists and audience to enter into the same submersive experience. This will be a gig, this will be a party, this will be Sounds From the Other City in one building.

Gesampkunstwerk
Brought to us by the minds behind GNOD and Burnt Offerings this event aims to bring a new kind of electronic night to the North West with the focus on sonic exploration with music from the experimental, bleeding edges of today’s diverse and genredefying scene. There will be a focus on the whole aesthetic of the night, using the work of artists, film-makers and others to enhance the atmosphere, making it a unique mulitsensory experience. It Will Happen Again: has everything been done before
Open Studio of visual artist Hannah Leighton-Boyce, interested in moments of ‘encounter’ with a place, an object or narrative, Hannah will explore experiences of time and the creation of space. The evening will culminate in artist video screenings and a special performance by Mill tenants Volkov Commanders in the club space.
