The bank holiday blues have firmly set in after three days of pure euphoria across the city centre this weekend! There are plenty of sore heads in this office this morning, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t got room for more plans to fill our diary this week, and we do live in Manchester, so it’s impossible to be bored.
From interactive art events to theatre debuts and White Hotel parties, it’s a pretty exciting start to September in the city, so as always, we’ve done our best to put together the very best picks of this week…
Margot & Lux Secondhand September Pop-Up

Northern Quarter’s boutique vintage store, Margot & Lux is celebrating Secondhand September by throwing a preloved and vintage market on the second floor of the Port Street shop. Overdrawn Interactive Art Event at GRUB

Get crafty tomorrow at GRUB as Overdrawn takes over the two floor street food venue for an evening of interactive art and creativity. The brainchild of local legends, Dave Draws and Pete Obsolete, Overdrawn is best known for celebrating creativity and showcasing local artists. The event is FREE to attend and you can expect live art, portraits, illustration showdowns, all alongside tasty food from GRUB’s roster of street food and drink vendors.
The Science of Psychedelics at Friends’ Meeting House

Tomorrow, Seed Talks is hosting an evening at Friends’ Meeting House that will see Dr David Luke, an Associate Professor of Psychology at The University of Greenwich, dive into his research on transpersonal experiences, anomalous phenomena and altered states of consciousness, especially through the use of psychedelics. Taking place from 7pm – 9.30pm, the talk looks at Western scientific research from the past 100 years that introduces the science behind some of the substances.
The Re-Opening of Lucky Ramen & Sushi

Relaunching tomorrow, Ancoats’ Lucky Ramen will introduce a brand-new sushi menu put together by an esteemed sushi chef. The restaurant is known for being a Tokyo late night ramen bar, where you can sit up at the counter with your bowl, watching the food being made in the kitchen and cocktails being poured. Every ingredient is considered, from the 3-hour slow braised pork, to the 24 hour tea-brined eggs, right down to the all important broth, which is cooked over the course of 8 hours.
Doubtfire at The Palace Theatre
Friday 2nd September
Kicking off this week is the theatre event we’ve all been eagerly awaiting, Doubtfire at The Opera House! The stage performance follows the same story of out-of-work actor Daniel, who will do anything to be close to his kids after losing custody. That includes creating an alter ego of Scottish nanny, Euphegenia Doubtfire, and taking care of his ex-wife’s home.
Written by Wayne Kirkpatrick, Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, and helmed by Tony Award-winning director Jerry Zaks, Mrs. Doubtfire will begin performances at the Manchester Opera House this Friday with a strictly limited season through until Saturday 1st October.
Meat Free with Alarico, Kaiser & Madalba at The White Hotel

From 11pm – 10am this Friday, Meat Free is back in the sweaty confines of Salford’s hidden party den to bring a techno trifecta of Alarico, Kaiser and Madalba, alongside resident Salford Gals Club aalice and Blasha & Allatt. Tickets are on their final release for this one, so be quick!
Manchester’s FIRST NFT Supperclub

The time has finally come for this one-of-a-kind Supperclub to take place this Friday from 7pm at Canvas, the city’s newest forward-thinking multi-purpose music venue, restaurant and members’ club, and the latest addition to the flourishing Circle Square development on Oxford Road.
With a globally-inspired 8-dish menu, the Supperclub will completely transform Canvas into a visual showcase of both NFT artists, Numan and LeiMai LeMaow’s works – who will also be attending and dining at the event alongside guests who purchased their art.

Showcasing the wealth of talent currently involved in multi-platform, omni-channel artistry across the North West and beyond, each edition will see critically lauded heads take to the city’s newest and most-talked-about venue, next-gen subterranean spot Canvas, for invite-only events celebrating the strength of the NFT community.
Launching this Friday at 10pm, intent on making the most of the club’s renowned high-tech spec, a slew of high profile visual, crypto and audio artists will take centre stage. That means music curated by celebrated generative art and 3D figure type Numan, AK Gramm — founder of Habitat, the finest amapiano, Afrobeat, trap, Funky and Garage throw down in town right now — and TRPHSE honcho and acclaimed producer Sham Steele. Add visuals by the one like LeiMai LeMaow, whose work is found everywhere from murals in Liverpool and Manchester to clothing and footwear, and the stage is set for the birth of a new institution.
Motorway Disco x Good Custard x Supernature at Hatch

Good Custard are joined by Manchester collective, Supernature Disco, Discography Lessons curator BenBanjo-field and local selector Faz for a night of disco and house under the A57. Hosted at Hatch, this month’s full line-up includes; Supernature Disco, Ben Banjo-Field (Discography Lessons), FAZ, Mascott, Mai Tai, Harry Bailey and WMD Percussion.
Manchester Psych Fest 2022

Possibly one of Manchester’s very best festivals, Manchester Psych Fest takes over various venues once again this weekend for a full-day celebration of genre spanning acts. This year, headliners include the likes of Black Midi, Jane Weaver, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Kurt Vile, and they’ll be joined by more music, food, art and workshops across the jam-packed one-day event.
The Street’s On Fire Exhibition at The Carlton Club

The Street’s On Fire showcase is a raw, chaotic and moving series of events that will invite visitors to undertake a journey of insight into the challenges being surmounted by the brave and bold youths of Myanmar as they fight for a future free of brutal oppression by telling their stories through art and defiantly celebrating free expression.
This one-day event at The Carlton Club, Manchester will include artwork and video installations on display throughout the day, a reading of poetry from the frontlines, live painting and a feast of home-made Burmese food, drink and handicrafts available for purchase.
Switchblade Society’s 3rd Birthday Bash

One of the city’s most popular poetry nights, Switchblade Society is celebrating everything the first three years has been this Sunday, as well as giving a hint as to what the next three years might hold. Hosted at The Peer Hat, there’ll be 10 poets performing, as well as live art and merch all kicking off at 7pm.
