Another Heart To Feed is up there as one of Manchester’s biggest success stories in the last 5 years, beginning life as a passion project for Alex Hill and Nicola Bell down on Chapel Street, they created a buzzing little cafe and bar inspired by their travels to Melbourne.
It quickly became a key player in the emerging cafe culture revolution in the city, introducing many of us to the pleasures of Smashed Avocado, Acai Bowls and brunch in general – the perfect spot for you and your mates to devour poached eggs and sink Australian lagers on a Saturday morning.
After troubles with their landlord though, Alex and Nicola were forced to re-locate Another Heart To Feed to West Didsbury, taking over West Village on the weekends. Then, they decided to pack up and emigrate to Australia – leaving the business in safe hands that would then expand with another spot in Stevenson Square, right in the heart of the Northern Quarter.
Well, it now seems that AHTF is about to get even bigger.
This week has seen a couple of licence applications go onto the Council website, one that tells us that AHTF are looking to expand the size of their NQ operation, as well as the addition of turning the space into a regular late-night natural wine bar.
The other – to add a brand-new basement bar.
Access to the bar will be through Another Heart to Feed itself, and they’re looking to get a 2am licence throughout the week for drinks and food. That’s all that we know so far – the basement bar doesn’t even have a name yet – unless they’re deciding to just call it ‘TBC’ and not worry about coming up with something clever.
It all sounds very exciting and something that we see will definitely do really well, especially considering the prime location right on Stevenson Square.
