Established in 2017 as a family business focused on good eating in the heart of the Northern Quarter, in many ways little has changed about the core Fress offering. Still aimed at providing a warm welcome into a cosy environment, arriving at the Oldham Street address you’re greeted with a natural feeling home-from-home. Solid timber tables, brown upholstered furniture, and floral-themed chair backs all add to the sense of bringing the outside in. A concept that really makes itself known thanks to the full back wall covered in greenery, one of the most striking design decisions at this spot.
“At Fress we strive to bring delicious, mouthwatering comfort food at all times,” the team proudly declare on the website. By that they mean giving customers a choice of lunch and brunch, evening dinner, or afternoon tea, catering to a variety of occasions. Popular choices on the menu include an extensive range of burgers, including Halal meat and vegan options, and wraps, which feature a fresh take on the legendary Philly Cheese Steak, among other concoctions.
Baskets & Bowls range from Poke to Fried Chicken, and an impressive line in Pancakes & Waffles accentuates the restaurant’s position as a great place to dine, even when you’re at your most vulnerable, with names like What Hangover Chicken Waffles and Dunkin’ Brekkie Tacos. A long list of ‘Add-ons’ are also available, which range from local pork sausages to Cheesy House Hash and a mini steak, with the full menu also boasting a dedicated Gluten Free and Kids section, along with the opportunity to turn the experience into a bottomless brunch. Mocktails, cocktails and shakes all set the bar high behind the bar, with a small selection of two-for-one cocktails poured at all times of the day. Those looking for more direct tipples will find wines by the glass, draught and bottled beers, along with flights of tequila and other spirits if you’re going all out.
