You can find pretty much every sort of kitchen imaginable in Greater Manchester, but some are in more abundance than others. Mexican eateries, for example, are in comparatively short supply, and that’s particularly true when it comes to authentic taquerias. La Capilla at Blackshaws is looking to right this wrong with its second taco and burrito-specialist site in the region. It’s also the second with a Stockport postcode for that matter (with the original spot over in Heaton Chapel), situated right in the heart of the pretty old town area, which has risen to become a real gastronomic paradise over recent years.

That means diners can enjoy wonderful views out over the market square through floor to ceiling windows, with the interior decor contrasting the busy street scene outside by keeping things simple. Think raw brickwork, retro neon signage, industrial light fittings and the odd mural adding colour, and yet more character.  The success of the first restaurant spurred on the idea for La Capilla at Blackshaws, which takes the last part of its name from the historic (and architecturally stunning) Blackshaws building it is housed in. Now lovingly and painstakingly restored to its former glory, this heritage backdrop creates an expectation of excellence, and the food here does not disappoint.

The team take real pride in parcelling up and piling on burritos and tacos inspired by the real taste of Mexico, using the freshest local and specialist imported ingredients to ensure one of the world’s most flavoursome cuisines is recreated to exacting standards. Alongside the core staples, specials are a big reason to visit, with examples like the Charred Hispi and Tempura Soft Shell Crab Taco with slaw and chipotle mayo giving some idea as to just how special things can get. Throw in other dishes such as the Full Mexican Brunch, not to mention excellent drinks in-keeping with the Latam thing (Pacifico beer, mojitos) and it’s easy to see why La Capilla is such a welcome addition to the neighbourhood.
