“Chocolate is a symbol of love, sharing and kindness, and that’s why we put a lot of love into what we do.” If the team behind Chorlton’s endlessly tempting Cocoa Tree didn’t have you at hello, they should have you now. This independent business on the Wilbraham Road strip has become a bonafide institution since setting up shop here circa 2017. Founded on one ethos — “we love chocolate, and we know you do too,” walking into the doors is a sensory experience, the air filled with the smell of sweet treats, warm drinks and nibbles, with beautifully displayed products lining the shelves, all crafted by hand with incredible care and attention.
A big part of Cocoa Tree’s success comes down to the vision of the people running it, namely Vicky and Chris. When you step through the door you’re not just walking into their shop — a chocolate emporium that could stand head and shoulders with the best in the world. This is also their home, and every customer who pays a visit is treated as family. The staff take real pleasure in talking through varieties and options, helping people pick out something truly special for their someone special, and that passion is infectious.
Trying to list everything on offer would certainly take some time, but examples of Cocoa Tree’s best include the Luxury Bon Bons, Caramelised Hazelnut Shard, Belgian Milk Chocolate Buttons, Belgian Chocolate Covered Golden HoneyComb Nuggets, Dark Chocolate Bars and Hand Crafted Selection Boxes. Aesthetically stunning — with a trademark ‘colour splatter’ effect adorning many of the lines — you can also ask for personalisations to make things extra special. All chocolates are gluten free and vegetarian, and some diary free and vegan options are available, too. Cakes and truffles can also be enjoyed inside the cafe, which serves amazing hot chocolate and fresh coffees, including a mocha which has become something of a legend in these parts.
