“Our mission is simple, to provide delicious, high-quality food and authentic beverages, to be enjoyed in a halal, relaxing and comfortable ambience.” The team behind MilJul Chai House couldn’t be any clearer with the idea behind their take on the tea room if they tried. First opening doors to the good people of Oldham in 2021, and scarcely pausing to put the kettle on since, this gem is appropriately situated on Yorkshire Street — a county with a big reputation for Britain’s favourite brew — right in the heart of town.
Offering flavours of the Far East and Indian subcontinent, MilJul does great breakfast, lunch and early dinner, but many people come here just for the incredible choice of specialist leaves. With that in mind, let’s start with the tea, or chai. Options include special karak chai, pink chai, green tea, red berry, peppermint, almond & saffron latte chai, turmeric haldi chai, and chai spice. Add extras such as a saffron sugar stick or cardamom for even more complex flavours.
For the most important meal of the day, the MilJul Chai House Breakfast menu ranges from Full Englistani (chicken or vegetarian sausages, eggs, masala beans, fried tomatoes, hash browns, toast or paratha), to Desi Nashta (Chickpea curry with omelette), with or without Halwa. Hot sandwiches are also available, and there’s the option to build your own if you can’t see what you want. Later in the day, enjoy a full Street Food Selection, including aloo tikki and anda shammi burgers, a samosa burger sandwich, or seasoned lamb seekh kebab wrap. Elsewhere, you’ll also find options like the butter chicken burger with french fries, biryani, dynamite chicken cone, or masala sweet corn. And to think we’ve yet to mention the excellent range of fresh coffees, milkshakes, iced frappes, sparkling soft drinks, and desserts on offer.
