American Pies, Manchester’s only purveyors of the Chicago-style deep dish pizza, are set to open a second location.
A licence application has been spotted in the window of what was Ancoats sports bar Second City, on Cutting Room Square.
The notice unit, at 23 Blossom St, reveals they plan to serve ‘late night refreshments’ until midnight on Sunday to Friday, and 1am on a Saturday, alongside alcohol too.
Their first American Pies opened on Mosley Street in 2021, serving up the seven-inch Chicago pies, alongside 24-hour ribs, burritos and hefty garlic bread focaccias for sharing.
The project is from the team behind Brewski, the North American and Canadian-leaning bars with locations in Chorlton, Sheffield and Chester.
American Pies diners can expect the usual souped-up American comfort food at the new spot, like deep dish pizza with a signature parmesan butter crust, deep fried calzone, garlic bread burritos, lasagne bites and groaning sharing boards.
The Chicago-style pies controversially layer marinara sauce on top of molten cheese, with American Pies throwing in creative toppings like slow cooked lamb birria and pepperoni, jalapeño and hot honey.
Unlike the New York or Neapolitan styles, what these pizzas might lack in width, they more than make up for in depth.
With Trove and Rigatoni’s having sadly departed the Ancoats scene of late, we’re excited to hear more about what American Pies are bringing to this foodie neighbourhood.
