You’d be forgiven to think that this bar is inspired by a Charlotte Bronte novel, but you’d be wrong, The Jane Eyre is inspired and named after Jonny and Joe’s Mother. “We want to create a warm and friendly environment as that’s what she always gave us growing up.”
The brothers have extensive experience within the Manchester and London hospitality scene, namely The Bubble Room, Gorilla and Polpo at Spuntino, pulling together their expertise, creating a concept that will sit proudly in the neighbourhood surroundings of Ancoats.
“The more experience we got the more ideas we had, and it slowly started to feel like something we could actually do. The idea of designing the interior of a bar was always exciting to us, as well as the thought of working for ourselves and enjoying the freedom to make all our own decisions.”
Both Joe and Jonny have crafted the menu, purposely keeping it clean and simple using quality ingredients and have sourced some exceptional wine and beers. Cocktails include all the classics like The Clover Club, Bloody Mary and more inventive drinks such as the Point and Half- a delicious concoction of gin, Punt E Mes, tonic and burnt orange.
Food dishes have remained pretty top secret- apart from a few exceptions like the smoked haddock and chorizo scotch egg which looks BANGING. The general vibe is British-style tapas with a little homage to Spain- which I think this Scotch Egg demonstrates perfectly.
The Jane Eyre will serve food between 11 am- 10 pm Monday through to Friday and 9am-10pm on the weekend. Oh yeah, and Brunch is available Saturday and Sunday from open until 2 pm.
The Jane Eyre will very much have a community feel about it – a warm and welcoming local bar and restaurant with a great atmosphere and friendly faces – where you will see Joe and Jonny behind the stick welcoming you in like old friends.
“And then there’s that moment where we take a step back and look at what we’ve created together in the name of our lovely Mum. That’s going to be emotional!”
Oh and just in case you needed even more convincing- the Eyre boys will be bringing another dog to Ancoats- a brown Springer Spaniel called Pickle who I reckon is going to be the next dog about town in the Ancoats neighbourhood.
