5-Bone Rack of Roast Lamb
Kai
It’s come to my attention this week that I might have a mild obsession with Sunday Roasts and appear to ‘treat myself’ to one every week. It offers some explanation as to why I’m out of money pretty swiftly after payday. Lamb is always my go-to whatever roast I’m getting and when I read the menu and saw ‘5-bone rack’ I was sold. The roasties were a bloody perfect balance of crispy and soft and I really, really want that gravy recipe. – Alex Watson
Antipasti
Don Giovanni
This week we went down to Don Giovanni to sample a new special on their menu, a giant antipasti. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect and actually a lot of the time when people say giant, it’s pretty mediocre. But not at Don Gio’s!! This was MASSIVE. A huge selection of hams, sauces, olives and of course mozzarella. I would like to eat this every week, please. – Petr Kaiser
Coquette Highball
Science + Industry
Highballs are the future. Well, that’s what I’ve heard anyway. Who told me? The very talented lot down at quite probably (i.e. definitely) the best cocktail bar in the city – Science + Industry. So I went down to get some images of one of their concoctions – the Coquette – a blend of Montelobos Mezcal
and Cocchi Americano Rosa – topped up with soda. It’s mightily impressive – even if it just looks like a glass of soda. – Ben Brown
Red Onion & Goats Cheese Tart
Harvey Nichols
Harvey Nichols has introduced their new ‘Winter Market Menu’ so I had a venture over to try it. The red onion and goat’s cheese tart starter was delicious and came served with orange, walnut and a spiced wine glaze. It didn’t quite seem right to come away having only spent £23 (for three-courses and a cocktail!) – Ste Pankhurst
Bacalao Embarrado
La Bandera
We were down at La Bandera this week – getting some video and pictures of their brand-new Spanish Brunch offer. Every Saturday they’ll be offering up 3 tapas with bottomless Cava for just £25 and the choice of dishes is mega. My personal favourite – the Bacalao Embarrado – cod fillets in a traditional Canarian marinade with peppers, garlic and vinegar. – Jale Hardy
Shakshuka
Evelyn’s
What can we say about Shakshuka eggs that haven’t already been said? It’s a classic that does not get the attention it deserves. Next time you’re out for brunch, set aside all your urges telling you to order avo on toast and get shakshuka, you will not be disappointed. Especially if you’re in Evelyn’s (the king and queen of brunch). – Charlotte Warrior
Tryanuary Specials
Cottonopolis
Ok everyone knows HOW good the cocktails are at Cottonopolis. The team have created a number of limited-edition cocktails for ‘Tryanuary’ promoting us all to try something new this Jan (worked for me! I’d have never ordered a MEZCAL and chocolate cocktail – but god am I glad that I did) they’re also got Lo and No ABV options on the menu. Go on – try it.- Rikki Chan
Black coffee & a protein bar
Foundation Coffee
A dry, dry Jan. (Honestly though, the protein bar / healthy snacks selection at Foundation Coffee is the best in town) – Ciara Martin
Peppercorn Carne Fondue
Bock Biere Cafe
There’s one thing I didn’t think I needed in my life and that was peppercorn sauce fondue. I really didn’t. But here I am, telling you it’s the best thing I’ve eaten all week. Maybe even all year. The worst thing about ordering a steak is when they charge you extra for peppercorn sauce and it comes in a dweeby little pot that barely covers one chip. Well, no more do we have to suffer. Glug down a giant glass of rouge and you’ve got yourself set for the night. Thank you, Bock Biere. – Jamie Roberts
