Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Saturday 30th March
Everyone knows that Terminator 2 is the best film ever made. It’s nice and simple. Arnie was at his peak (in body mass alone), Cameron was so hocked up on cocaine that he managed to not sleep for 17 weeks and envision the perfect apocalyptic world and Linda Hamilton was doing so many push ups that at one point she accidentally poked Robert Patrick in the eye with her bicep and he lost his vision for 3 days. It’s a fucking phenomenal film and this week you’ll be able to watch it on the big screen as it comes to the ODEON on Saturday. Not to be missed as they say.
Projekts MCR x Beatnikz Brewery for International Women’s Day
Saturday 30th March
So the lads at Beatnikz have got together with the skateboarding women of Manchester to create a new beer, and this beer is going to raise money (and awareness) not just for International Women’s Day but also for the Projekts skate park which is under the Mancunian Way somewhere. They’ll be having a slap-up party this Saturday to celebrate the new brew as well as allowing everyone to get on their boards and do some grinding or whatever it’s called.
ZigZag at Honey Trap Club
They’ve got themselves a new night over at the Honey Trap Club and they’ve decided to name it after those annoying puppets that used to interview guests on the Big Breakfast in the late 90’s. Just like Zig and/or Zag it should be pretty entertaining as they present an ‘anything goes’ DJ set each week, meaning you should expect every genre, every era and every banger ever. It’s likely going to be too cool for me – but if you yourself are cool – get involved.
Mother’s Day
Sunday 31st March
It was 1985. My mam was heavily preggers with Ben Brown and he was already the perfect child. Not only did he never cause her any fuss, he also turned out to be one of the greatest blokes ever in the world. So here we are. Mother’s Day. Writing this has just reminded me that I’ve not even been in touch with my mam in about 3 months – so I should probably give her a call. All of Manchester’s restaurants and bars and other venues are pulling out all the stops this Mother’s Day with FREE Prosecco, FREE desserts and FREE food flying all over the place. Check out our round up right here…
26 Ways to Treat Your Mum this Mother’s Day
LEGOLAND Adult Nights
Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th April
As a young lad my whole life was LEGO. As soon as the Turtles lost their appeal and He-Man revealed himself to be a muscly little loser LEGO ruled the roost. The genius bit about it is that you can make pretty much anything you want with it – a house, a car, a huge penis shaped spaceship – it’s brilliant. If (like me) you’re still well into LEGO, and the perfect birthday present is getting a Super Star Destroyer then you’ll be loving these Adult Nights at LEGOLAND near the Trafford Centre this week. Basically you can go bloody mental with all the LEGO – making whatever you want and generally just being a big kid again.
Hot Chip DJ Set at YES
Wednesday 3rd April
Continuing their very impressive line-up of live acts, YES are playing host to Hot Chip this week and so anyone in attendance can be assured of a lovely bit of dance-pop permeating their ear holes. They’re going to be on the decks between 11pm and 3am so even if you’ve lost your head after one too many shots of Fireball – it’s likely you’ll remember something of it. Tickets are 8 quid which is very reasonable considering.
We Are Lager Festival
Starts Thursday 4th April
Okay okay okay. So what? Who cares that we’re taking over the opening night of the We Are Lager Festival with a night curated by Nanny Banton and Chimpo? Who cares that there’s going to be more lagers on tap than in a Belgian off licence? Who cares that you’re quite possibly going to have one of the best nights of your life? Well, we do. I do. It’s going to be bloody brilliant. All of that lager flying around is going to be extremely satisfying – so good luck there. Belgian off licences don’t even have taps – what am I going on about? Get your tickets below…
Showgirls at a Casino
Friday 5th April
Pretty much every bloke you meet under the age of 40 will have a soft spot for the movie Showgirls. As a 13-year-old lad the ratio of naked girl to plotline is pretty much perfection, and anyone who grew up watching Saved By The Bell obviously enjoys seeing Jessie Sparrow get her kit off and shag like a mental case in a pool with the guy from Twin Peaks. The crew at Make A Scene are putting on a super special immersive screening of this trashy classic this week – in a bloody casino! It’s going to be great – snap up the last few tickets quick.
