For all you vegans out there, The Refuge’s main menu includes the likes of Chickpea Daal (£5.50) with coconut milk, smoked almond, apricot and dates. There’s also Chargrilled Cauliflower (£5.50) with carraway and pomegranate and Beetroot Pakora (£5) with a tamarind ketchup.

Decisions are hard and sometimes, after a long day, you just don’t want to have to make any more. Honestly, it can be tough. First world problems eh? Well check these out…

The Vegan Introduction

That’s why The Refuge have a full dedicated VEGAN INTRODUCTION offering. For just £40 you can get a reet good feast for two and a carafe of vegan wine.

On the menu are 6 delicious dishes, including Curried Sweet Potato, served with spinach and toasted almonds. Perfectly balanced and surprisingly packed full of flavour, the potatoes go amazingly well with the rest of the dishes.

There are thick and crispy Beetroot Pakora served alongside a punchy tamarind ketchup sauce for a dippy dip, as well as the humble Chargrilled Cauliflower served alongside fresh and crunchy pomegranate seeds.

Cauliflower has had a resurgence and what was once easy to overcook, mushy and rather bland vegetable has become a show-stopping main course dish.

The menu also has a super fresh salad small plate with Fennel & Pear and a sprinkling of dill and radish. There’s also Daal Makhani (I’m starving writing this and all I can think about is Daal.

One of the most delicious things while simultaneously being so bloody modest and humble), which is perfect alongside the soy and sesame Portobello Mushrooms.

The menu is served with crispy, buttery and full-of-flavour flat breads to dip in everything. Yum.

The Vegan Sunday Roast

But that’s not all. The Refuge even has a full dedicated Vegan Sunday Roast (£15). Complete with all the trimmings; King Edward roasties, gravy and a selection of veggies including a sneaky homage to Manchester with Vimto-braised red cabbage.

The star of the show is The Vegan Wellington. The flaky pie is filled with butternut squash, lentils, a shallot marmalade glaze and a good drizzle of sesame maple syrup. Delicious.
