Or, you could avoid the horoscopes altogether and continue as normal for the rest of summer, frequenting the beer gardens and ending up in a karaoke bar on a school night. And, if this is you, you won’t be disappointed this week as there’s plenty of celebrations, launches and parties taking place across the city.

10 Tib Lane is turning one, Le Social celebrates two whole years of natural wine and there’s even a massive bash taking place tonight to celebrate the Love Island finale! If you’re ready to crown your winner surrounded by proper good food and bottomless bevs, Shack in Northern Quarter is the place to be

My Utopia at Electrik

Thursday 4th August
Electrik has announced its latest upcoming cultural exhibition, which sees the much-loved Chorlton bar host the collaborative work between two local artists, Richard Kelly and Emma Evans. Kelly’s images, taken on his daily walks, are a reflection of the city and its outskirts during lockdown, a bleak time for Manchester. His work spans themes around society, fashion and music – with a formidable portfolio that features The Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty, Dr Martens and Fred Perry.

Evans is an artist and illustrator who made a name for herself during lockdown with doodles on Monton High Street’s shop window. In exploring form and colour, she creates drawings of positivity and snippets of life; as it was – and as it will be again. ‘My Utopia’ sees the two creatives collaborate to craft a meaningful juxtaposition of experiences and artistic disciplines. Together, they combine mediums to construct one whole expression of two very different takes on the city. Most notably, their artwork echoes a journey that evolves out of something desolate and into something hopeful.

Stockport Collection at Stockport Museum

Thursday 4th August
Heidi Alexander’s exhibition which covers the community of Stockport between 1976 and 1977 is currently showcasing at Stockport Museum. Her work explores evocative images of Stockport market throughout the late 70s and provides a glimpse of time gone by with photographs and objects. In 1976 and 1977, as an undergraduate at Stirling University, Heidi spent a few weekends visiting a friend near Stockport Market. Charmed by the atmosphere and the characters, she shot several rolls of film with the Leica M4 camera inherited from her father. Decades later, during the first COVID-19 lockdown of early 2020, Heidi rediscovered the long-lost negatives from those visits and started posting the images on social media. Heidi will be signing copies of her book this Thursday at the museum from 6pm-7pm.

St Ann’s are a charity who offer support to patients from right across Greater Manchester. Some people come to them for care at the end of their life, others for help managing their symptoms. Some join their day care sessions, while others enjoy complementary therapies or spend time with counsellors.

Only a third of their funding comes from the NHS so, as a charity, they need to raise £20,000 every day to keep their doors open. Fundraising events and activities like this are a huge help to the charity to be able to reach their goal and every kind donation makes a huge difference to their patients and their families.
