With all of these COVID restrictions in place, you’d have probably thought that spas were closed for the foreseeable future. Well, you’re wrong.

They’ve re-opened again and even though there are a couple of things that aren’t (usually the saunas and steam rooms) there’s still plenty on offer to help you unwind and de-stress.

From Manchester, Salford, Cheshire, Rochdale, Buxton, Macclesfield, Chester, Cumbria, Blackpool, Harrogate & Huddersfield, get yourself booked up somewhere lush this October.

Rena Spa at The Midland
One of town’s best hidden gems, the Rena Spa at The Midland is a proper experience. Beautifully lit, the Rena won Best Urban Spa at the 2019 Good Spa Awards and it’s super easy to see why. The highlight of the Rena is that sexy relaxation room you’ll have seen pictures of. Complete with four hanging pods, soft cocooning chairs, armchairs and three beds complete with duvets & pillows, this room acts as the perfect place to take your well deserved nap after a moment in the Himalayan Salt block sauna (which is supposed to combat the negative ions emitted by technology like your phone and laptop!) They’ve also got a 9-metre relaxation pool, whirlpool, Caribbean storm and Arctic rain showers, hot tub, alderwood sauna and steam room – phew. Sounds nice right?

Get wrapped up in one of their XXL fluffy white robes and treat yourself to a lil treatment from one of their beauty experts who use a range of top-notch brands including ELEMIS & Aromatherapy Associates. There’s plenty of packages to choose from, including deals in association with their swanky River Restaurant which is known for it’s DELICIOUS food – hard recommend.

Buxton Crescent Spa
Feeling flashy? After 17 long years, the luxury Buxton Crescent Spa has finally opened its doors! The incredible building was originally built in the 1780s, becoming the centrepiece of a Georgian spa development. They offer a wide range of spa and beauty treatments, combining traditional beauty therapies with more holistic treatments. There’s a heated thermal pool (which has actual Buxton mineral rich water flowing into it) surrounded by original 1924 wall tiles, a bio-thermal sauna, a Buxton co2 mineral bath, an infa-red sauna, an aroma steam room, a Finnish sauna, a relaxation pool, an ice fountain, a salt cave AND an indoor to outdoor roof top pool – oooooooo baby.

The Spa At Mottram Hall
Set in a redbrick mansion dating back from 1721, this spa is only about 7 miles from the airport and so is the perfect distance for a little weekend visit. The spa itself is also home to the UK’s first ‘Alfresco Thermal Space’ basically an outdoor Scandinavian-style spa garden where you can sit in a mineral stonebath or enjoy a Brechelbath – a 200 year old Bavarian herb steam bath that stimulates you mentally and increases concentration.

At the moment the spa is only available to residents at the hotel due to COVID, but that surely just means that you should stay overnight too.

Bali Health Lounge
This one receives mega reviews daily. A hidden oasis in Chinatown, this one is more of a place to receive holistic and beauty treatments than to go for a swim and a steam (there’s no pool). Bali Health Lounge Day Spa draws its inspiration from world-class spa resorts, luxury hotels, Asian massage centres and even first-class flight lounges to offer a different kind of spa day experience to what’s already out there. The spa is spread over 3 floors inside an ornate Victorian building and whisks you away from all that city energy.

Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa
Perched on the edge of the massive Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake District, Armathwaite Hall looks like the kind of house you’d see someone living in on a BBC1 costume drama. Hidden away on the grounds though is a stunning spa with all of the mod-cons, including a hydro pool, steam rooms, saunas and even dedicated make-up and manicure rooms. The surrounding area is great for walks too – sort of an additional ‘natural spa’ right on your doorstep.

Titanic Spa, Huddersfield
Named after a ship that bloody sank might not sound like the best idea, but strangely enough there are very little parallels to this spa and the infamous boat. They’re both rather opulent, and there’s plenty of water but that’s about it really. In fact, Titanic Spa is in fact located within a redeveloped mill and is the UK’s first ‘Eco-Spa’ – offering up a range of spa treatments and wellness facilities including their own natural water source that supplies the solar-heated salt-regulated swimming pool.
