Back in March of this year, Time Out launched their post-pandemic ‘Time Out Index‘ survey, asking city-dwellers across the world searching questions about their lives.
It included questions about how they were feeling, thinking, what they were eating, drinking and doing for fun. A huge, anonymous survey of ‘urbanites’ all over the planet, from Melbourne to Madrid, Chicago to Copenhagen and Tel Aviv to Tokyo.
They wanted to find out which cities had “really stepped up and pulled together” during a year of worldwide pandemic – so it wasn’t just questions about food and culture, but also community projects, green space and sustainability.
Well, the results are in and Manchester has been placed in as the 3rd Best City in the WORLD!
Number 1 is San Francisco, and Number 2 is Amsterdam, but then it’s US – sitting proudly above the likes of New York, Copenhagen and Tokyo.
Noted for the city’s “resilience”, we’re praised for having thrived throughout the pandemic, with communities banding together through the toughest of times.
71% of people in the survey described the city as “creative”, a factor helped by the Manchester International Festival in July, and a future for the city based firmly on culture and the arts.
Rob Martin from Time Out Manchester said: “We’re leading the way in: General great vibes. This city has a rep for knowing how to have a good time, and it came as no surprise to us that it was voted top for ‘nightlife’, ‘creativity’, ‘community spirit’, ‘friendliness’ and ‘getting to know your neighbours”.
Can’t really argue with him there. Well done everyone – this is a great achievement – pat yourself on the back and buy yourself a pint to toast a job well done.
