The dance work is magnetic, creating a dazzling and provocative fusion of high art and pop culture. The piece is soundtracked by a range of electro and pop to classical music.

The character, Maggie the Cat, originally a woman who escaped a life of childhood poverty to marry wealthy and seemingly improve her life, ends up with a great feeling of unfulfillment. The play was adapted into a big screen production starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman.

The newest adaption of the film brought to MIF 2019 by Harrell’s addresses power, gender, and inclusion through the prism of one of modern theatre’s most celebrated characters. There are influences from everything; ancient Greek theatre to the Harlem voguing underground.

The art piece promises to be challenging, tragic, entertaining – and ultimately joyous.
