The foodhall boom has been one of the biggest success stories for hospitality in recent years.

Altrincham Market House, Sale Foodhall, Stockport’s Produce Hall, Mackie Mayor in the city centre and Salford Quays’ recently opened Kargo.MKT have all become foodie hotspots.

In 2024, Bolton will be the next Greater Manchester town to enjoy the food hall treatment.

Finishing touches have been made to the town’s 170 year-old market, which is set to become home to nine new traders, with a central communal seating area.

The work has also seen improvements to Bolton Market itself, including an expansion of the outdoor area and structural renovations to the historic shopping centre.

The £5.59m project aims to create a space where people can meet and socialise throughout the day, as well as increase the variety of stalls in the retail complex.

Alongside the market renovations, the final stages of the town centre Elizabeth Park project will also be completed in early 2024.

Named in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, the new urban park has transformed the former Odeon cinema site and will feature seating areas, picnic tables and a public performance space.

Work on the Bolton Market project has been completed by local firm Seddon, who handed the building back to the council earlier this month.

John Shannon, managing director of property services at Seddon, said: “Being part of a project with such transformative influence, closely tied to our local community, has truly been a privilege. We look forward to seeing the diverse range of new businesses at the stalls in the market and the community’s response to the space with the newly built improvements.

“At Seddon, we firmly believe that people make places. Initiatives such as this provide us with the opportunity to share our experience and expertise, contributing to the local fabric of Bolton, a community we take great pride in being a part of.”
