Since being forced to move from their previous site at the old Bauer Miller car showroom, in the arches underneath the Metrolink tracks at Deansgate Central, 53Two have been popping from location to location to host their productions.

Well, they’ve now got their sights on a new venue, and after obtaining planning permission early last year, they’ll be heading to a new location, again under the arches, but now on Watson Street – just a few doors down from Three Little Words.

The new, accessible 150-seater theatre will also host a brand new theatre bar, a space designed by local architects Coda Studios. Preceding the opening of the actual theatre space itself, the bar will pave the way for 53Two’s continued hard work with accessibility, diversity and opportunity at its core.

Artistic director Simon Naylor said: “It’s been devastating to watch theatres across the country struggling to survive over what is surely the hardest six months they’ve ever experienced. Thankfully our doors weren’t open and we were able to use this time to gather support from charities like Backstage Trust, LCVS to ensure we were in the best possible position to open a new venues when the time was right.

“We’ve continued to work with Manchester Central and the city throughout this and we’re delighted to finally announce we’ll be getting started on site in the New Year.”

The bar is set to open in Spring 2021. Keep an eye on developments below…
