The former Bier Cell site in Altrincham has lain empty for a while now, much to the sorrow of the surrounding community desperate for a few bottles of fine Belgian beer.

Located down a quaint little alleyway on Altrincham’s Greenwood Street, it has now finally been refurbished under the name of Bier Zot, another snug space offering a curated selection of Belgian and German bottled and draught beers.

New owner, Owen Meikle Williams was a proud punter before he took over the space, frequenting the former Bier Cell bar for years. Previously owned by local hero Jason, Owen has made it his mission to continue the legacy of the bar with one of Jason’s legendary hats even adorning the wall.

What you can expect when you head to the newly transformed Bier Zot is an intimate, snug space with welcoming chat and a plethora of European thirst-quenchers. The space sits a maximum capacity of 20 at once, with the potential of an extra 15 outside and bottles are available to purchase to take home or enjoy drinking in.

Owen has spent a lot of time on his eclectic selections, which feature a huge selection of local beverages alongside the German and Belgian imports. The first beer on draft will be the Brugse Zot, a Belgian blonde beer which Owen also took inspiration from for the bar’s name.

The interior of the venue features a gallery wall of familiar faces, including Twisted Wheel frontman and Manchester legend, Jonny Brown amongst other pictures snapped by photographers, Andi Callen and Wilf Gill.

There’s also talk of potential future acoustic evenings, as music-fanatic Owen is also the brains behind the city’s ‘After All Festival’, which nurtures local musicians, DJs and performers. The evenings are set to be an intimately exclusive affair featuring some of the city’s very best artists.

With close proximity to Altrincham Market, Bier Zot will also allow guests to bring over any food bought there to enjoy alongside the huge range of beers and ales, once again honing in on that unmistakable Altrincham community vibe.

Bier Zot is open now, Tuesday 11am – 7pm, Wednesday 4pm -8pm, Thursday 11am – 7pm, Friday 10am – 9pm and Saturday 10am – 9pm.
