A new exhibition showcasing the work of much-loved Mancunian artist Stan Chow has been announced.

The Edge theatre and arts space in Chorlton will show a selection of Stan’s personally-curated collection, marking the first time he has shown a selection of his work from the worlds of film, stage and television.

The illustrations of stage and screen stars include BAFTA, Emmy, Olivier and Academy Award winners, as well as The Edge patrons Sir Mark Rylance, Julie Hesmondhalgh and John Thomson.

With over 30 years working as a graphic artist, Stan Chow has become internationally known for his distinctive style and portraits of pop stars, actors, sports people and celebrities. His headshots are also used as byline artwork in the New Yorker magazine.

On the curation of the exhibition, he said: “I had a lot of fun looking through my back catalogue to find the images that would work in the lovely space offered to me at The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre and it’ll be the first time my design of Sir Mark Rylance will be shown in public.”

Janine Waters, Artistic Director at The Edge, added: “We are thrilled to have such a local legend bringing his work to The Edge, and this exhibition promises to be a very special one.

“We are particularly excited to see Stan’s unique take on our patrons, alongside some other familiar faces. It is a privilege to have his work on show in our building in the heart of Chorlton.”

The exhibition opens on Thursday 15 February and runs until Thursday 30 May at The Edge Theatre and Arts Centre on Manchester Road in Chorlton. All signed, framed and prints on display will be available to purchase too.
