The world of trainers and sneakers (kicks, creps, trabs, treads, sannys or whatever you call them) is certainly big business – with the rarest and most sought-after shoes fetching thousands of pounds online.

Over the years the cost of trainers has steadily increased, and in a world where “fast fashion” is starting to become a thing of the past, many are turning to restoring and cleaning their old trainers instead of buying new ones.

It’s also a fact that when you find yourself some trainers that you love – it’s hard to let go. Which is where Nusole come in – a premium footwear laundry boutique based at Pollard Yard in Ancoats.

Launched in late 2018 by childhood friends and trainer fanatics Luke and Kile, the intention of Nusole is to provide a quick and easy yet high-quality solution for footwear maintenance. They want us to fall back in love with our footwear – giving us that out-of-the-box fresh feeling once more.

Their service incorporates extensive cleaning, topped off with modern aftercare to prolong the lifespan of footwear. Packages start at £20 for their classic clean, moving up to £35 for their high-end premium ‘Nusole Clean’ which comes with includes a protective treatment, fragrance spray and complimentary shoe tree.

They also offer repair work and paint touch-ups, perfect if your sneaks have been through a serious battering during a night at Warehouse Project, or if you’ve been ‘christened’ by your mates (which was all the rage back in school in the 90s).

Nusole are also actively engaging with the local community in the city, and looking to give something back, such as their ‘Sole Save’ shoe giveback drive where they restored and cleaned more than 100 donated trainers to give back to those less fortunate, a scheme where they partnered with the homeless charity Barnabus.

In addition, they recently launched the Nusole Cup, which took place near the Etihad Stadium and brought together a whole host of Manchester-based organisations to play some competitive football and enjoy soulful vibes supplied by resident Dj Eti Congo, plus food and drinks from Pull Up Bar in Ancoats!

Looking to the future and Nusole are hoping to incorporate all of these extra-curricular activities into one big project, bringing fashion, sporting and live music events, art, food and the community together through events.

They’ll be looking to launch a new freestyle platform which will shine light on established and emerging Manchester-based artists, who will have the opportunity to come through and showcase their talents.

It’s all looking rather exciting for Luke, Kile and Nusole, and we wish them the best of luck with everything they do. If you’re interested in getting involved in any of the community projects that they’re doing, give them a DM on their Instagram page.
