A joint £650 million project between Muse Developments and The English Cities Fund has seen the area around Salford Central and Chapel Street completely revitalised – creating a brand-new neighbourhood which has subsequently seen some of the city’s best bars, restaurants and independents flock to the area.
In recent years there have been 4 separate residential developments pop up in the area; Carpino Place, Timekeeper’s Square and Vimto Gardens, with the newest – Valette Square finally reaching the final stages of its construction this Summer.
With new developments come residents and they’ve really managed to create a proper neighbourhood down there, one with its own personality and charm, as well as the exciting new businesses that invariably set-up shop in the area.
Just a short walk to the city centre and Spinningfields, the area around Chapel Street is quickly becoming an exciting independent haven, with the likes of Islington Mill providing space for creatives to thrive, while restaurants like Vero Moderno and Porta Tapas Bar are setting the foundations on making it a real foodie destination.
Add to this the outstanding Caribbean Flavas, Pizzaology and one of the best chippies in Manchester and Salford – Chung’s – you’re going to be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out.
In addition, Seven Brothers Beerhouse at Middlewood Locks is only a short walk away, as well as Salford institution The Old Pint Pot and the ever-dependable Kings Arms. Not forgetting that The New Oxford is right there on Chapel Street; effortlessly serving up a massive range of craft ales, beers and ciders every single day.
Also at the forefront of this regeneration is an increased concentration on arts and culture, with the Salford Museum & Gallery just a short walk away, alongside the GK Gallery featuring 6-week long exhibitions giving emerging artists a chance to showcase their work.
Just on the banks of the Irwell is the beautiful and historic Peel Park, which opened its gates all the way back in 1846. In 1851 it was the main public venue for the royal visit of Queen Victoria and has been the subject of a number of paintings by LS Lowry over the years. The park underwent a £1.6m refurbishment in 2017 which managed to revitalise the space and return it to its former glory.
All of this activity wouldn’t be possible without the concerted efforts towards regeneration, with the various developments in the area acting as a catalyst for change and to get people into the area.
The newest development, Valette Square, offers Help-to-Buy new build homes just off Chapel Street, with homes consisting of two, three or four bedroom townhouses designed to high-end specifications.
