Old-timers and true green leaders Stitched Up have been running their sustainable clothing hub in Chorlton since way back when and this autumn they’ll be bringing their programme of workshops and activities to Stretford Mall!

The sustainable fashion focused social enterprise are true leaders in their craft. Since 2014, members of the public have had access to a vast selection of workshops and events which provide skills and tips towards a greener future from their space in Chorlton.

The guys down at Stitched Up provide expert skills in sewing, mending, upcycling and even host a monthly clothes swap and repair cafe. Cute!

Each year in the UK an estimated 1.14 million tonnes of clothes are supplied onto the UK market, and we discard an estimated 1.13 million tonnes (!!). So swapping, reusing, repurposing and repairing our clothes is certainly one way we can do our part to help.

Sadly, since mid-March, the public programme from the guys has been on hold. Back feeling refreshed and eager to go, Stitched Up will host a series of workshops and events next month at their super-cute pop-up space located in Stretford Mall.

Stitched Up Co-Director, Sarah Revington, told us “We’re so happy to be able to re-launch our public programme in Stretford. As well as our popular monthly courses Learn to Sew and Garment Making, we’re also working on some new events and one-off workshops based around clothing reuse, repair and upcycling that we know people are going to love!”.

Stitched Up’s vision of the future of fashion is one that values uniqueness, creativity, wellbeing, natural resources and the longevity and creative reuse of clothing and materials. The pop-up is fighting back and aims to offer a real alternative to mass-produced fast-fashion, something that Manchester is unfortunately famed for.

PS, there will be a range of reclaimed textiles and sustainable sewing supplies also available from the pop-up from Wednesday to Saturday each week (with the fabrics all being diverted from landfill or donated!)

Find the programme of workshops and courses below, be sure to keep updated as they’ll be adding new ones each week!
