The iconic Weir Mill in Stockport has been purchased by Capital & Centric and is set to become one of the first developments in the new Stockport Mayoral development.

The Grade II listed building, which dates as far back as the 1700s, will be home to a thriving new mixed-use community space as part of the £60m regeneration of the area.

There will also be the addition of 250 new homes, independent shops and new frontage onto the River Mersey.

Co-founder Tim Heatley said: “It’s the buildings like Weir Mill that give a town its character. To save these amazing mills we have to find viable long term uses for them.

“By developing a new community we’ll not only be creating some incredible places to live but we’ll be opening up access to the waterside for everyone.”

To give locals a chance to see the mill up close before it undergoes a makeover, Capital & Centric are hosting a Sunday Social in collaboration with Stockport’s Foodie Friday.

The event will feature boutique street food from the likes of Foodie Friday regulars including I Knead Pizza, ArtiSam and Somtam Street.

All soundtracked plenty of good music from Stockport’s Fuzzy Sun and DJ sets including from Clint Boon.

The event will also be raising money for the Greater Manchester Mayor’s homelessness charity which aims to give a bed to every single person sleeping rough in Greater Manchester.
