Taking place across Deansgate tonight, Food Of The Gods is an alternative art show curated by TV Babies, a Manchester/Glasgow based collective consisting of artists Freya Wysocki, Charlotte Simmons, and Jenny Hanns.
The show is part of BAS9 collateral programme, A Modest Show, showcasing Manchester’s artists and artist-led venues. From May until September this year, the programme has delivered 43 new commissions, working with 100 artists, across 27 venues.
Focusing on hospitality, dining and food, tonight A Modest Show offers an exhibition as a main course, creative food-led events as dessert, a chopping block as a studio, a kitchen as a gallery and restaurants as museums, bending the concept of a traditional fine dining establishment.
The simulated fine-dining experience uses live streamed green screen technology to curate the participatory event alongside an installation of work TV Babies have created together during the residency.
The show tonight will celebrate the end of the collective’s residency at DEZ REZ, 285 Deansgate. From 17th august they have inhabited the space, making work for the event and leaving the door wide open for any inquisitive passers by to pop in for a chat.
TV Babies pride themselves on creating installations, films and performances that are often tongue in cheek and poke fun at our society and the art world. As a collective, they intend to take art outside of art institutions/commercial spaces into artist-led spaces that focus on people over profit.
The event tonight is free to attend, but tickets must be booked using the link below. It will run from 6pm – 8pm and promises to be an eye-opening evening of independent art.
