It’s a debate that gets everyone riled up. What is the very best crisp? In my humble opinion, it has to be a Kettle chip, something with a bit of depth and a deafening crunch. But I’m still not sure on the flavour yet. I’ll have to get back to you on that one.

The first of July marks the start of this year’s Greater Manchester Fringe, a month-long celebration of independent art, theatre, comedy, music and film.

This year, as part of the event’s 2022 edition, comedian Adam Evans has taken it upon himself to try as many crisps as possible for his Crisp Review show taking place at Salford’s The King’s Arms.

As he struggled to fill his time throughout the recurring lockdowns of the past two years, Adam began reaching out to various crisp manufacturers for free crisps to review – birthing his show ‘The Crisp Review’.

Using his thorough ‘T.A.S.T.E’ system (texture, amount, satisfaction, taste, economy) he chomped his way through bags and bags of deep fried potato to come to his final conclusion of the number 1 BEST crisp in the world.

18 months and over 50 reviews later, a box arrived containing seven free packets and an overwhelming sense of success.

Now, Adam’s main goal is to milk this idea to death. Expect crisps, a documentary about crisps, games involving crisps, graphs about crisps and potentially, if he can blag a crisp sponsor, a free packet of crisps for all in attendance!

Greater Manchester Fringe 2022 takes place from 1st – 31st July and features a range of performances that take place at various venues across the city. Alongside Adam’s show, there’s also a VR Musical, debut films from local directors and a 1980s themed adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Many of the performances that take place at Manchester Fringe also feature in Edinburgh’s infamous Fringe festival that takes place in the city later in the year.

Adam Evans Crisp Review show will take place at The King’s Arms on Tuesday 5th July at 8pm. Tickets are on sale now for £5!
